Who we are

 

"ODYSSEAS" is the cultural association of the residents of the worker's housing settlement of Efkarpia, Thessaloniki VIII. It was established in the spring of 2006, acc. with no. 8003/31-03-2006 op. of the Court of Thessaloniki. The new settlement developed between the old settlements of OEK "Macedonia" and the facilities of Carrefour-Efkarpia, consists of ~500 houses, which host around 3,000 residents, of which a very large number (~1500) are children. The multi-faceted and varied nature of the problems, as well as the living of a very significant number of small children in our settlement, led to the creation of "ODYSSEAS".

Its name is symbolic,  since our road is not paved with rose petals. A short or long odyssey awaits us.Time will tell. What is certain is that we are armed with courage and determination and we are sure that with the help and sensitivity of the competent bodies we will reach the finish line.

And what is our goal? Our goal is very common and not impossible. What we want to see at the end of our journey is this beautifully laid out settlement, with its bright houses and large (but unused) common areas, to overcome its functional and constructional problems, to be utilized and capitalize on its potential. To be an ornament for the western districts, but also an example of a living settlement - organization, which will provide employment opportunities and activities.

A settlement in which its members, especially the children, will want to live and will choose to live, because it will not just be some workers' housing granted to them on favorable terms, but their home, their area and the place where they will live on equal terms, and will not be ashamed to say, "I live in the workers' housing".
